Spring football is always a huge deal down south. What day and time will the South Carolina Gamecocks play their annual Garnet and Black game this spring?
Even spring football practice is a bid deal in SEC country. The 14 member institutions do it right every spring semester by having a handful of practices in March and April, capping them off with a decently attend spring game at their respective home stadium.
In the last few years, the South Carolina Gamecocks have been a bit of a guinea pig when it comes to SEC football television scheduling. South Carolina usually gets to play in the first SEC game of the year on Friday night Week 1. Now it seems that the Gamecocks will be the first SEC team to play their annual spring game.
The annual Garnet-Black Spring Game will be on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 2:00 p.m. ET from Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. It will be nationally televised on the SEC Network for any and all SEC fans to enjoy. This will be the second spring game of the Will Muschamp era in Columbia.
Muschamp did a phenomenal job in his first year with the football program. South Carolina went 6-7 (3-5) to become bowl eligible. The Gamecocks went 3-9 (1-7) in the final year of the Steve Spurrier era in Columbia the year before. Muschamp’s program had big SEC wins over division rivals Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Tennessee to get to six wins on the year.
While South Carolina isn’t expected to win the SEC East this season, the division is still very wide open. Georgia is to some degree rebuilding, Tennessee refuses to seize control of the division and Florida finds ways to win despite horrendous quarterback play.

Muschamp laid a great foundation for the South Carolina program in year one. Maybe a good intra-squad spring game could get Gamecock Nation excited about a promising fall to come?
