Sidney Crosby is toying with the Buffalo Sabres. He scored by splitting the defense then unleashing a backhanded shot past Robin Lehner with one hand.

In addition to being the best hockey player in the world, Sidney Crosby is now a part-owner of the Buffalo Sabres.Crosby came into this game fresh off a natural hat trick against the Florida

Crosby came into this game fresh off a natural hat trick against the Florida Panthers and wanted to continue that good fortune.

While this goal against the Sabres only counts for one on the scoreboard, it should be worth at least five. He toyed with the Sabres the same way he’s toying with the rest of the league:

This goal was so good, the crowd had no choice but to give Crosby a standing ovation for it. When he scores goals like this and makes it look so effortless, it’s a great reminder that he really is a once-in-a-generation talent.

This NHL season has been exciting for a number of reasons, but the race for the Art Ross trophy is one of the biggest. This is the closest scoring race in years — any one of Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Brad Marchand or Patrick Kane could come away with it. All of them are determined to win since it has a great impact on MVP voting.

McDavid winning the Art Ross in just his second season while bringing the Edmonton Oilers back to the playoffs would be an incredible story. Marchand wants to win it to solidify his place among the league’s elite.

But despite what the numbers say, Crosby remains head and shoulders above the rest of the pack, and he is playing like he’s determined not to get outscored by a sophomore and a career pest. And even if Crosby ends up losing the scoring race, the fact that he’s at the top of the field despite missing six games is absurd.

Of course, what shouldn’t be ignored is Crosby’s spear on Ryan O’Reilly earlier in the game. The first period really showed the best and worst of him, and the NHL would be better off if their best player would score more wonder goals like this and commit less heinous acts.
