An updated 2017 NIT bracket now that the quarterfinals are set with eight teams still alive
Whenever you talk about snubs for the NCAA Tournament, those teams can normally be found playing in the NIT in the postseason. That’s obviously the case with the teams considered the First Four Out, who earn the No. 1 seeds atop each section of the NIT bracket. For the 2017 NIT, those four teams were the Syracuse Orange, Illinois State Redbirds, Iowa Hawkeyes and California Golden Bears.
Cal bowed out early, losing in the first round of the NIT to Cal State Bakersfield. Meanwhile, the other No. 1 seeds lived to see the Round of 16. However, none of the four will be around for the quarterfinals following a string of upsets in the second wave of matchups.
Syracuse took a loss to the Ole Miss Rebels over the weekend, followed the day after by Peter Jok and Iowa getting ousted by the TCU Horned Frogs. Meanwhile, the Illinois State Redbirds almost survived on Monday night, but choked hugely and lost by a single point to UCF.

Now the 2017 NIT bracket admittedly looks quite wild. Only one team that was assessed a top-three seed remains alive: the Illinois Fighting Illini. Meanwhile, a No. 8 seed, three No. 6 seeds and a pair of No. 4 seeds are all in the quarterfinals. Needless to say, it should be a wild finish to the tournament.
Following the action throughout the weekend and on Monday, here’s a look at the updated 2017 NIT bracket with the quarterfinals matchup locked and loaded:

It might seem wild to have none of the No. 1 seeds remaining on the 2017 NIT bracket, but that’s actually quite normal in this tournament. Things always get wild and the teams are so closely matched that anything can happen. Ultimately, it adds to the excitement outside of the NCAA Tournament.
