After having interest in the former tag team earlier in the year, WWE has reportedly offered formal contracts to Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy

Just a few months (or even weeks) ago, there were numerous rumors that WWE wanted to bring back Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy. In the midst of that buzz, though, they debuted at Ring of Honor and then won the Tag Team Championships in ROH. As a result, there was at least a bit where they seemed like they might set up residence there. That, however, looks to be far from the case.

For one, BROKEN Matt Hardy and Jeff will face The Young Bucks in a Ladder Match for the tag team gold once again at ROH’s Supercard of Honor XI in Lakeland, FL on the Saturday before WrestleMania 33. And considering other reports that their deals were short-term with ROH, it stands to reason that they could lose the belts on Saturday.

Now, that appears almost imminent given the latest buzz. According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Jeff and Matt Hardy have officially been offered contracts this time around by WWE, a point they never reached earlier in the year when the rumors were flying. What’s more, Satin goes as far as to say their return to WWE is seemingly “inevitable.”

What’ll be interesting to see, though, is what version of these two veteran brothers we would see in WWE. Matt is currently involved in an ugly battle over his BROKEN gimmick. Given how over that gimmick is, though, you’d have to imagine that WWE would like a version of it used if they could.

Then again, they will also get their pops if they simply return as the Hardy Boyz. Sure, they aren’t the young, high-flying risk-takers that they once were. However, they’re both still very capable workers and would constitute a nice nostalgia pop for some time. We’ll have a chance to see which route they go soon enough as it appears safer to expect them back than not.
