18. FIFA 2000

The first FIFA Soccer game of the 21st century was FIFA 2000. Unfortunately, the new millennium didn’t mean anything particularly special from the team at EA Sports. If anything this game just felt like an updated version FIFA 99.

Gameplay

As is the case with every new FIFA game, the graphics were slightly better in FIFA 2000 but the general gameplay was similar to FIFA 99. One thing that particularly stood out in 2000 was how the scoreboards and other info-graphics looked much better. This made FIFA look more authentic — as if gamers were actually playing in a live televised game.

New Features

FIFA 2000 was the first of the FIFA games that allowed players to play consecutive years in the “Season” mode. It was also the first FIFA game to include MLS in the playable leagues. For the first time, the commentators would comment on a team’s league form, which made the game even more realistic. It was also possible to customize camera heights and the zoom, which gave players the opportunity to find their perfect playing view.

Special Features

An interesting special feature appears in the “Rest of the World” club selection in FIFA 2000. Most notably, English League team Port Vale are included, but the EA Sports production team have also included themselves in four different squads which is a fun addition. The cheats in this game were a highlight as it was possible to have players abducted by aliens, struck by lightning and more.

Verdict – Escaped relegation
