LaVar Ball: 5 excuses he’ll make if Kentucky beats UCLA
3. He’ll take shots at John Calipari
This one isn’t really an excuse, but it’s definitely going to happen if UCLA loses. It might happen if they win too, but it will definitely happen if they lose. Ball has made a name for himself by saying his genes are better than other athletes and that he could beat former legends in games of 1-on-1. Outside of the High School ranks he hasn’t done too much talking about coaches, but John Calipari seems like an easy target for him to after in the event of a Wildcats win.
Ball will criticize his one and done factory claiming that he’s never accomplished anything without his players. In the same breath he’ll subtly throw a shot towards Steve Alford by claiming if UCLA had all these one and done players then they’d have won more than the single national championship Calipari has one in his long career. This will be a strange insult, because Ball is going to be a one and done player that should go very high in this year’s draft. Going after the coach that has helped make that trend popular will seem to be going against his son’s best interests.
However, this isn’t about what’s actually correct. It will be about throwing a shot towards the coach that beat UCLA and coming up with a reason for why that is. He’ll get some publicity for it and some extra life might get breathed into the “feud” if Calipari responds, but by that point it will be old news cause Ball will be on to his next feud. Probably with Adam Silver about the one and done rule in the first place.
