Richard Sherman says Colin Kaepernick is being blackballed
By Noah Torr
Richard Sherman, the star cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks, believes Colin Kaepernick is not getting fair treatment in free agency.
Colin Kaepernick is still a free agent in the NFL and theories are starting to be tossed around the league as to why Kaepernick is still a free agent. If you ask Richard Sherman, it is because of his pregame gestures, or rather lack of gestures.
Per ESPN.com, Sherman finds no logical excuse for Kaepernick to not already be signed by an NFL already. On Friday morning, Sherman appeared on ESPN’s First Take and gave his thoughts on why Kaepernick has not been signed to an NFL team already. He said, “There was a year Matt Schaub had a pretty rough year and got signed the next year. So it has nothing to do with football. You can see that. They signed guys who have had off years before.” Sherman is referencing the current Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback, Matt Schaub, who has had his fair share of rough seasons.
Kaepernick created quite a buzz throughout the league when he decided to not stand for the national anthem before each game. Instead, he took a knee.
Kaepernick brought in quite a bit of attention from people around the world. There were mixed feelings about his motives, but he continued to take a knee throughout the season. Safety Eric Reid and wideout Kenny Stills, among others, followed in Kaepernick’s footsteps and knelt during the anthem.

It is quite plausible that this could be a reason for Kaepernick still being on the free agent market, but it could also be that teams have found better options at the QB position. Kaepernick left the San Francisco 49ers in order to test the free agency market and find a better contract than what he had in the Bay Area. Obviously, things have not panned out the way that he envisioned they would. There seems to be no interest in Kaepernick. Who knows where he’ll end up before the season starts?
