Less than 24 hours after appearing in his last NCAA game, Brock Boeser scored his first NHL goal.

The Vancouver Canucks are stuck in the middle of a rebuild. It’s been a painful two seasons for them, but certain young players are giving them hope for the future. One of them has been 2015 first-round pick Brock Boeser. He’s been an excellent goal scorer in college, leading the University of North Dakota to a national title in 2016.

Boeser played what wound up being his last NCAA game on Friday as they lost to Boston University 4-3. He didn’t get much of a break, as the Canucks aggressively started trying to sign him. Boeser signed early on Saturday and even got to play in their afternoon game against the Minnesota Wild. In front of his hometown, he got his first NHL goal. It wasn’t anything flashy, but hey, all goals count the same.

The goal was just a tap in, but already, you can see what makes Boeser such a good goal scorer. He knows where he has to go to score. Boeser trails the play and pounces on the rebound. That’s prime real estate for goal scorers.

Boeser got to score in front of a group of family and friends. His NHL debut was so unexpected, some of them didn’t even get the chance to buy a Canucks jersey. Even his agent made an appearance.

They’ll definitely be buying a Vancouver jersey now. Boeser is the 21st player from the 2015 NHL Draft to score a goal. The Canucks desperately need young players who can produce as they look to rebuild. Boeser is an important part of their rebuild. If he pans out, Vancouver could return to their glory days fairly soon.
