John Tavares scores after parting Bruins defense (Video)
John Tavares doesn’t need any help scoring, as he took on three Bruins defensemen to score a beautiful goal.
The New York Islanders are driven by their captain John Tavares. He fell into their laps as the first overall pick of the 2009 NHL Draft. Ever since then, Tavares has been making opponents look silly.
The Boston Bruins are his latest victim. Tavares entered the offensive zone drawing the attention of three Bruins. It didn’t matter because he parted his way through them to score early in the game.
That’s some terrible defense by the Bruins, as they give Tavares way too much room. But to be fair, not much you can do against a guy who can do things like this on a nightly basis.
The goal is his 28th goal of the year. Tavares is just two goals away from netting his fourth 30-goal season and his third consecutive one. It’s also his 65th point and he’s pushing yet another 70-point season. If Tavares gets to 70 points, it will be his third straight season with at least 70 points.
The Islanders are making a huge push for the Stanley Cup playoffs. A lot of it has to do with Tavares. The team has been playing much better after a slow start to their season. It’s hard to imagine they were close to being in last place back in January. Interim head coach Doug Weight has done a great job helping the Islanders to rebound. Entering Saturday, they are two points behind the Bruins. This makes Saturday’s game against Boston a must-win for both teams.

Tavares could get some Hart Trophy love if the Islanders wind up making the playoffs. He likely won’t win, but he could sneak into the top 10 in voting.
