Distinguished South Carolina alum Darius Rucker weeps tears of joy after his beloved Gamecocks reach their first Final Four in school history.
While it has been a long time since Madison Square Garden was Eden for the Knicks, it was just that for the Gamecocks basketball team this weekend. South Carolina shocked Duke in the Round of 32 last weekend to reach the Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden. Many thought their Cinderella run through the 2017 NCAA Tournament had run its course in Greenville.
That was absolutely not the case, as South Carolina throttle the Baylor in the Sweet 16 and handled their SEC rival Florida in the Elite Eight. In attendance to see South Carolina earn its first trip to the Final Four in school history, notable South Carolina alum Darius Rucker is seen crying tears of joy over the Gamecocks athletic accomplishment.
Through thick and thin, Rucker has been a major supporter of South Carolina athletics back when he was just a college kid in Columbia before his Hootie and the Blowfish days. One of Rucker’s most notable songs refers to how the Dolphins used to make him cry. Now it is his alma mater’s men’s hoops team doing it but in a good way.
South Carolina will be joining the Gonzaga Bulldogs, the Oregon Ducks and the winner of the North Carolina/Kentucky Wildcats game in Phoenix for the Final Four. Expect Rucker to be in attendance to see how far South Carolina can go on this dream journey.

The Gamecocks were only a No. 7 seed in their region. They will be the lowest seeded team in the Final Four, as the other three schools will all be top-three seeds in their respective region. Rucker has been a big part of Gamecock Nation for years. It’s great to see him be brought to tears after this emotional win from his favorite basketball team.
