Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker can do more than score. Here he is feeding power forward Marquese Chriss with a cool behind-the-back pass down low.

The Phoenix Suns have already failed to qualify for the Western Conference Playoffs this season. While a spring with Suns basketball is disappointing, what isn’t is the emerging star they have a shooting guard in Devin Booker.

On Friday night, Booker eviscerated the Celtics defense by scoring a ridiculous 70 points, albeit in defeat. Since going one-and-done at Kentucky, basketball fans have known that Booker will be able to score in the NBA. However, did they have an idea he can distribute the rock this magnificently?

Booker drew tight coverage as he dribble the ball near the Charlotte Hornets’ paint on Sunday afternoon. Rather than putting up a certainly contested shot attempt, Booker flicked the basketball behind his back like he was ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich. He found the wide-open rookie power forward Marquese Chriss in the paint for an easy bucket.

This is the type of play that let’s the Suns know that they have their budding superstar. Booker’s game is evolving in his second year out of the NBA. If he can get improved play out of one or two of his young Suns teammates, Booker could have Phoenix playoff viable sooner rather than later.

The thing Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has to figure out is what type of elite player to pair Booker with from the top-five of the 2017 NBA Draft. Phoenix is certain to be picking in the top of the lottery. Will McDonough opt to get Booker a point guard, a wing or yet another big man? Small forward may be the position McDonough should target. Either way, Booker is a special player.
