Legendary broadcaster Verne Lundquist caught an errant pass during his final college basketball broadcast on Sunday.
The college basketball world is saying goodbye to a legend on Sunday. Although Verne Lundquist already said goodbye to the college football faithful that had followed him throughout the years, he got to say one final goodbye on Sunday, as he called the Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks in the Elite Eight.
He made sure to go out in style at least. During the second half of the game on Sunday, the Gamecocks attempted to inbound the ball. An errant pass sailed out of bounds and it came right for Lundquist. He showed off the hands by grabbing it off the bounce and then soaked in the cheers from the crowd.

When someone broadcasts a game from next to the action for as long as Verne has, he’s prepared for every bit of these situations. Still, seeing him hold the ball up and take one last round of applause from the crowd was an awesome sight to see.

There are several legends in broadcasting but very few have had the impact on broadcasting in college athletics that Lundquist has had. He’s the voice of SEC football and one that no one will soon forget.
He had the opportunity to call the overtime thriller between Wisconsin and Florida on Friday night. At the very least, he’s going out with two excellent games to call. That is what it’s like to go out in style.
