2017 NFL Draft: Denver Broncos 7-round mock
With their offense addressed, the Denver Broncos can start adding some more impact players. They’ll grab a potential future starter here in Davon Godchaux. Teams need to plan ahead to replace players. Jared Crick will be a free agent after the 2017 season. Godchaux would be a great replacement.
At LSU, the versatile lineman saw snaps at both defensive tackle and defensive end. In defensive coordinator David Aranda’s system, Godchaux was a 3-4 end. He put up 62 tackles, including 8.5 for a loss, along with 6.5 sacks. In Denver’s system, he should be able to move to the outside effectively.
Godchaux needs to be a more consistent pass rusher, but got high grades for being a great team player at LSU. He has proven to have a lot of value as a run-stuffer with his strength and solid instincts. However, Godchaux would need about a year to learn to be a five-technique lineman, as he has exclusively been a three-technique player to this point. But he has the perfect skill set to be an impact player for the Denver Broncos.
Right away, Godchaux could be an intriguing addition to a blitz package with Zach Kerr. He can get after the quarterback and that’s something you can’t teach.
