1. How does Brian Lewerke hold up?

When it comes to the Michigan State spring game, the biggest point of observation will be the quarterback position, particularly redshirt sophomore Brian Lewerke. Michigan State will only be as good as its quarterback position lets it be.

Lewerke had won the starting job last season for the Spartans but had his redshirt freshman season cut short due to a broken leg suffered on October 30 against in-state rival Michigan. Michigan State’s season was already on the fritz at that point, but it completely unraveled once Lewerke went down.

Spartan Nation hasn’t seen their starting signal caller in action since Halloween. Obviously, no quarterback will be hit in this intra-squad scrimmage, but it will be interesting to see how Lewerke’s leg has healed and if he’s ready to take back the reigns to the Michigan State offense.

The Spartans will need a good season out of Lewerke or really whoever ends up asserting themselves worthy of the starting job. All eyes will be on Lewerke and his leg in the spring game. If he plays well, the Spartans should feel encouraged about their upcoming season.
