France face Spain at the Stade de France on March 28. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
International friendlies can go one of two ways. Some are complete snoozers. The teams don’t really care all that much, the managers play no one from the first team, and it’s a boring game from start to finish. This game feels like it’ll be the second type of friendly. This type of friendly is much more open as two teams take extra risks knowing a loss is ultimately meaningless. In Spain and France, we have two teams that are historically great, and incredibly talented. This game should be a measuring stick for where both teams are heading into the World Cup next year.
As Spain reloaded after their 2010 World Cup win, it became difficult to see where they were going as a team. That compounded itself in the 2014 World Cup in which they failed to make it out of their group. New manager Julen Lopetegui has handled his new job with class and taken advantage of Spain’s stacked midfield to make Spain a threat once again.
France, on the other hand, are a bit of a wounded animal. Losing the Euros in their backyard was humiliating. As they return to action their team is still just as talented and keen to a victory. Look for France to use this as a measuring stick emotionally to see where they are in the championship loss healing process.
