Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett addressed the situation surrounding Tony Romo on Tuesday

As the Tony Romo saga extends by the day with the Dallas Cowboys and their handling of the quarterback, head coach addressed the situation on Tuesday, albeit rather briefly. At the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday, per ESPN.com, Garrett only noted that the organization is “working through” the situation, and that nothing has really changed since the end of the 2016 season.

Romo was set to enter the season last year once again as the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback before suffering another back injury. After the unfortunate setback for Romo, the reins were handed over to fourth-round pick Dak Prescott out of Mississippi State, and from there the unthinkable to some took place. Prescott, with the help of fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott and that stout Dallas offensive line, went on a tear through the regular season, leading the Cowboys to the NFC East title and a berth in the playoffs. It was pretty much understood at that point Romo was no longer the starting quarterback of the Cowboys.

It was recently believed that the team would release Romo once free agency hit, but that hasn’t ended up being the case. No release took place, as presumably the Cowboys wanted to seek a trade partner so they could get something in return for their former franchise quarterback. Teams rumored to maybe have been interested included the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans, but nothing has come to fruition on that front.

Eventually, though, something will have to give and the Cowboys will need to figure out what to do with Romo. There’s obviously no need to keep him on the roster at this point, but at the same time, teams are understandably concerned about the durability of Romo given his injury history recently.
