Jay Cutler not expected to play in 2017
There appear to be very strong feelings that 11-year veteran quarterback Jay Cutler won’t be suiting up for any team during the 2017 NFL season.
Back in 2006, we saw three quarterbacks taken within the first 11 picks of the NFL Draft. The Tennessee Titans opted for Texas’ Vince Young at No. 3 and the Arizona Cardinals went for USC’s Matt Leinart at No. 10. Considering their lofty selection status, both came up a bit short of expectations.
Of course, some would say the same about strong-armed Jay Cutler, who was taken No. 11 by the Denver Broncos. Then again, he’s lasted a lot longer than the other two quarterbacks selected ahead of him. After three seasons with the franchise he was part of a monumental trade with the Chicago Bears. The former Vanderbilt University product had the tools but his performance was far too underwhelming at times.
In eight seasons in the Windy City, Cutler played in all 16 games only once – back in 2009. This offseason, he was released by the organization as they began anew (again) at that position (free agents Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley both signed with the San Francisco 49ers). There has been plenty of speculation in regards as to where Cutler might wind up this upcoming season.
Now we get word from WGN Radio Chicago Bears Insider Adam Hoge that the guessing game may be over.

Is this the end of Cutler’s perplexing career? Or does the unpredictable signal-caller simply need some time away from the game? On the other hand, if indeed the 11-year veteran isn’t in any team’s plans this season, the free-agent quarterback market just got a whole lot more interesting.
