Lonzo Ball says he’s a better player than Markelle Fultz

Lonzo Ball says he’s a better player than Washington’s Markelle Fultz because of his leadership ability, and it just makes sense, right?
This should not come as a surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention to college basketball. Yesterday, Lonzo Ball said he feels he’s better than Markelle Fultz because he thinks he can lead a team better, during an interview with ESPN 710 LA.
Lonzo Ball can make a strong case for being the better floor general of the two. He lead the nation with 7.7 assists per game this season. Ball has also been compared to legendary point guards like Magic Johnson and Jason Kidd.
However, Markelle Fultz is widely expected to hear his name called first on draft night in June. In 25 games for the Washington Huskies this season, Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. Though he was spectacular, his team finished the regular season 9-22.
The truth is there may not be a lot of separation between the two players. Both have great size and shooting ability that will translate to the NBA game. It remains to be seen how Lonzo Ball’s inability to contain De’Aaron Fox in their Sweet 16 matchup will impact his status.
Fox eviscerated UCLA throughout that game to the tune of 39 points. At times, Ball either looked too slow or uninterested in accepting the defensive challenge against Fox. Of course Lonzo’s father LaVar Ball, was quick to point out NBA teams will not draft Fox ahead of Ball based off one game alone.

Lonzo Ball feels he is the better player because he should feel that way. Ball has an inordinate amount of confidence as he’s been in the spotlight. And players do not generally admit inferiority to other players.

Remember, his father told us Lonzo is better than Steph Curry. So who the heck is Markelle Fultz?
