For as bad as the Houston Texans quarterback situation was at the end of the season, they head into Aprilās draft in arguably worse shape than that. While Brock Osweiler was a terrible signing last season, the thought was he would get another shot in 2017, but this defense is too good to waste another year on him. Osweiler was traded to the Cleveland Browns for basically draft picks, meaning Tom Savage is the head man in Houston currently.
While that may be scary for Texans fans, there should be help on the way. There is still no word as to whether or not they are going to make a play for current Dallas Cowboys backup Tony Romo, and the jury is out as to whether he would even be a good fit. With the No. 25 selection next month, the Texans should get an arm, and Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II may wind up being the best in this class.
Mahomes is considered a project at this point, but he is someone who could be a starter at some point during the 2017 season. As stated earlier, this defense is going to win games next season, and the offense could make due with Savage under center. If Mahomes can work on his footwork, he is going to be a good one, and just mayĀ be able to help the Texans sooner than later if they take a flier on him next month.
