Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has tons of promise, but Cody Zeller didn’t care about any of that Friday night after his monster jam.

In just his second year, Nikola Jokic has his Denver Nuggets in a position to possibly make the playoffs in the Western Conference. The 22-year-old averages 16.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game on 58 percent shooting from the field.

However, none of those numbers mattered when Charlotte Hornets power forward Cody Zeller dunked over Jokic in Charlotte Friday night.

With less than 10 games to go, the Hornets still have a slim chance to get the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, as they’re two games behind the Indiana Pacers. While it’s very unlikely Charlotte will sneak into postseason play, Zeller is still playing his heart out.

On the flip side, the Nuggets also have a chance to make the playoffs. Currently, they’re two games behind the Portland Trail Blazers for the final spot in the Western Conference.

For the majority of the second half of the season, Denver has held down the eighth seed, but Damian Lillard and company have made a late surge, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. For the past three seasons, the Blazers have made the playoffs behind the leadership of Lillard.

The multi-time All-Star has proved time and time again that he’s a clutch performer when his team needs him most. With just a few games left, it’ll be interesting to see who prevails to be granted with the honor of playing the Golden State Warriors (in all likelihood).

Not to mention, four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant should be back for the first round of the playoffs, if not by the end of the regular season.

After tonight, the Nuggets will have seven remaining games on their schedule, which includes matchups against the Rockets and Thunder twice.
