UCONN women down at half to Missisipi State in Final Four
The UCONN women are in danger of their historic streak coming to an end.
The UCONN women are the most dominant team in all of sports. Entering the 2017 Women’s Final Four their win streak sat at 111 games and it seemed like nobody was going to stop them from winning yet another championship. That was until Mississippi State came along to say they weren’t going to get run over by the champs.
UCONN has so far rolled over the majority of their competition. They’ve had a few “close” calls, but rarely have they ever felt truly in danger. Right now, at halftime against Mississippi State, they look and feel in danger.
The Huskies are currently down 36-28, and that’s an improvement on what was originally a double digit deficit during the second quarter. Usually this wouldn’t be a big deal at all, but considering what UCONN has done this season any time they’re down at halftime that feels like it should be news.
So how has this happened? Well, Miss State has so far done an excellent job keeping UCONN’s offense in check. The Huskies typically blow teams open early on and coast to the finish from that point.
Anytime it looks as if someone might catch them they turn on the jets and finish the game before anybody can do damage. They have one of the most incredible offenses in basketball and that Miss State has held them to less than 30 points in a half is quite an achievement.

Leading the charge for Miss State is Victoria Vivians. She has 12 points with Breanna Richardson right behind her scoring seven and pulling down five rebounds. Right now, Miss State is playing the game the want. It’s ugly and they have the lead despite shooting poorer from the field than UCONN is at the moment. It will be interesting to see how the Huskies respond and adjust in the second half.
