An updated 2017 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket after the UConn Huskies

The UConn Huskies winning a women’s college basketball game under Geno Auriemma. That’s basically clockwork for them at this point. And coming into Friday night’s Final Four matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they were looking to do so for the 112th consecutive time. However, Mississippi State’s star guard Morgan Williams and her squad were unafraid of any streak and were looking to make history.

What’s more, the Bulldogs didn’t waste a moment in sending that message to the UConn women. They jumped out to a nine-point lead after the first quarter. Perhaps more impressively, though, they didn’t allow the Huskies to fight back in the next frame. Instead, they only conceded one point from their lead, going into the locker room ahead by eight points.

Of course, UConn would indeed make a run back and they did so quickly out of halftime. However, Mississippi State did a marvelous job of stopping the bleeding. It was the back-and-forth throughout the rest of the second half, leading to a dramatic final possession in regulation. William couldn’t convert, though, forcing overtime.

In overtime, things then took a turn for the worse, with 26.6 seconds left on the clock, Katie Lou Samuelson had gone to the floor on the previous play, the Bulldogs up by two points. They reviewed it and, unfortunately, it was a Flagrant 1 call. Samuelson sunk both free throws and got the ball for the Huskies. For whatever reason, though, Saniya Chong inexplicably drove with 15-ish seconds left on the clock and turned the ball over, giving Mississippi State the ball with 12.3 seconds left in a tie game.

William then became the hero once again. The Bulldogs star got the ball with five seconds left and then drove, crossed up, and pulled up for the jumper—BANG! Down goes UConn.

Joining the South Carolina Gamecocks, William and the Mississippi State Bulldogs now play for a National Championship on Sunday. With that, here’s a look at the updated 2017 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket:
