The San Francisco Giants start the 2017 season against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.

The 2017 Major League Baseball season has finally arrived and the San Francisco Giants are traveling back to Arizona for an Opening Day matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks are hoping that new manager Torey Lovullo can do for Arizona what he did for the Red Sox. The Diamondbacks are celebrating their 20th season in Major League Baseball after joining the league in the 1997 expansion.

They saw success early in their history but have been languishing in the bottom half of the National League West for the past several seasons. In 2016 their 69-93 record was good enough for a fourth place finish over the San Diego Padres, but only by one game. They had a solid performance in Spring Training, which suggests that they’re on the right track.

San Francisco looks to best the Los Angeles Dodgers and get back to the top of the NL West. After breaking the even-year championship pattern, it’s time to start a new tradition. The Giants were 87-75 in 2016 but they’re hoping that a healthy and well-rested team, they can get back to the top. Manager Bruce Bochy will have a new face on the corner with the addition of former Padre Phil Nevin as the third base coach. Nevin played for Bochy on the 1998 Padres team that went to the World Series.

Giants’ ace Madison Bumgarner will face off against Arizona’s Zack Greinke. In 2016, Bumgarner was 15-9 with a 2.74 ERA. Greinke was 13-7 with a 4.36 ERA in 158.7 innings. Greinke struggled a bit in 2016 so he’ll be looking to get back into the groove early.
