Derrick Rose suffering a season-ending meniscus tear in his maiden season with the New York Knicks adds injury to insult.

What was supposed to be a superteam has instead been a super dumpster fire. In a season of turmoil, the New York Knicks have now lost point guard Derrick Rose for the rest of the year due to a torn meniscus. The news was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski:

The Knicks are already well out of the playoffs, so it’s not like Rose would’ve made a difference. But in what has been an injury-riddled career so far, Rose has picked up yet another setback. He’s played 64 games so far, which makes this one of the healthier seasons of his career. But as an impending free agent, this could severely impact his stock. It’s hard to imagine which team, if any, will want to take a chance on him next year.

Rose came to New York hoping for a fresh start, and has instead been caught up in turmoil. Before the season even started, he was on trial for sexual assault, but got cleared in time for the first game. He was then caught up in a big controversy when he visited his mother in Chicago during a game, but didn’t tell the Knicks. And he’s spoken out numerous times against Jeff Hornacek for getting benched in favor of Ron Baker.

All of that would’ve been enough for one team to deal with, but Rose’s incidents have been just a fraction of the bad headlines surrounding the Knicks this year. Between Joakim Noah’s suspension for performance enhancing drugs, Charles Oakley’s ejection from a game, and the constant speculation surrounding Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony, it’s a wonder how anyone still cheers for this team.

Even though they’ve improved upon the last few years from a record standpoint, this might be the embarrassing Knicks season in recent memory. Rose’s meniscus tear simply adds injury to insult.
