Report: Cowboys still hoping for Tony Romo trade interest

Dallas Cowboys eyeing a Tony Romo trade partner
The Cowboys continue in their efforts to make a Tony Romo trade happen, per Pro Football Talk. Ever since the 2016 season concluded, Romo’s future has been extremely cloudy. After suffering yet another injury during the 2016 NFL preseason, Romo eventually lost his starting position in Dallas. It seems as though his days as a starting quarterback may have come to an end. With two teams in the mix to go after the longtime NFL quarterback, a Romo trade seems unlikely.
The Houston Texans and Denver Broncos have the been the few places that have made headlines in relation to a potential Romo trade. Earlier this offseason, the Texans cleared some salary cap space by sending Brock Osweiler to Cleveland. This move was so surprising, that everyone, including myself expected Houston to pull the trigger on Romo. I mean, why else would they just dump their supposed franchise quarterback and clear all that salary cap space? It seemed like the Texans wanted to plug in an experienced player like Romo to lead the offense.
Neither of these two teams are apparently willing to trade for Romo. The Broncos and Texans simply aren’t interested, or they are simply waiting for him to be released to make a move. Part of the issue could be Romo’s enormous salary cap number. He’s scheduled to make over $20 million this season and that has to be a factor in this ongoing saga.
Jerry Jones continues to shop his beloved Romo, in hopes to get something in return and to find a good situation for him. Jones has mentioned that the other NFL teams have permission to speak with Romo or make an offer. A trade just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for Jerry and the Cowboys. I feel like if one of these contending teams really wanted to add Romo to their roster, they would have proposed some kind of trade by now. The Cowboys may have to except that Romo’s value isn’t as high anymore with his age and history of injuries.
