Tuesday’s season 2 finale of Legends of Tomorrow finds the team willing to break one of the most important time travel rules in order to fix reality.

Last week on Legends of Tomorrow, the team found itself living in a horrible new reality created by Eobard Thawne and the Legion of Doom. The original plan was to steal the Spear of Destiny and fix reality.

But that plan when out the window when Eobard Thawne destroyed the Spear, cementing Doomworld as the only reality. To make matters worse, the Legends are down a member after Leonard Snart killed Amaya.

There is only one way now to save Amaya and reality. The Legends will have to travel back to World War I and stop the Legion of Doom from getting the Spear in the first place. The problem is that there is already a set of Legends in that time period. And apparently, the biggest, never to be broken rule of time travel is to never go back to an event you have already participated in.

So in order to save the world, the team will have to risk an even greater consequence: a massive time paradox that causes time to fold in on its self.

Here is the synopsis for the episode, “Aruba”, from SpoilerTV.

"SEASON FINALE — As the Legends are about to take off for their next destination, a massive timequake rocks the ship.  In order to try and fix what has happened, they are forced to break the one cardinal rule of time travel.  But if they are able to destroy the spear, they will face the ultimate consequence."

Seeing as Legends of Tomorrow is already renewed for a third season, it seems like a pretty safe bet to assume that they will succeed in their mission. First, the team will have to figure out that the Waverider and Rip are toy-sized on Eobard Thawne’s desk.

Going back to the battlefields of France means J.R.R Tolkien will be back for the finale. And he is not the only returning familiar face in the episode. As revealed in a tweet from Marc Guggenheim, Katie Cassidy will also be in this episode as Laurel Lance.
