The Louisville Cardinals will host their annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 15.

With Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson set to return at quarterback, the Louisville Cardinals will have high expectations for the 2017 season.

Louisville spent much of the early part of last year in playoff position before losing three straight to close out the season at 9-4 overall. Jackson piled up over 5,000 total yards and 51 touchdowns to become the first Heisman winner in school history with a comfortable margin over Deshaun Watson in second place.

Before Jackson returns to game action on Sep. 2 against Purdue, fans will get an initial look at the 2017 Cardinals in the annual Red-White Spring Game. Louisville’s Spring Game is set for 1:00 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, April 15 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Last season, Louisville had a Spring Game crowd of over 16,000 fans to rank 20th in the nation. That number figures to grow with the excitement surrounding Jackson’s junior season and a promising team that has playoff potential.

While the Cardinals lose several important pieces, Jackson figures to lead an offense that should be explosive enough to keep Bobby Petrino’s team in contention for the ACC crown. Louisville’s early-season schedule is not forgiving, as it travels to North Carolina and hosts Clemson following the opener against the Boilermakers.

Looking sharp in the spring game will be important, as the Cardinals would be ranked near the top four if they could survive that stretch. A trip to Florida State on Oct. 21 could determine Louisville’s fate this year, as it has a manageable enough schedule down the stretch otherwise.

The key unit to watch will be the offensive line, which struggled mightily last season but returns some experience with a new positional coaching staff. Jackson will also get some more work in with playmakers Jaylen Smith, Traveon Samuel and Reggie Bonnafon, as Louisville’s top three receivers from 2016 all departed.
