The Los Angeles Angels start the 2017 season against the Oakland Athletics. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.
It’s Opening Day for Major League Baseball and it’s time to kick off the 2017 season with the Los Angeles Angels visiting the Oakland Athletics.
2016 was a tough year for the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics. Both teams make up the bottom of the American League West, and it’s time to get out of the basement.
The Angels finished the 2016 season with a 74-88 record, good for fourth place in the AL West and 21 games back from first place. The team has been leaning heavily upon Mike Trout but there is only so much a single person can do to boost a team. With that in mind, the Angels have been making strides in the offseason to elevate the team’s performance. It seems to be working, as the Angels had a very strong 20-14 showing in spring training, putting them second in the standings behind the Yankees.

The Athletics finished last in the AL West with a 69-93 record. Spring training has been consistent, with a 16-18 finish. The As have been in the AL West basement for the past two seasons after making trips to the postseason before that. They had a one-game improvement in 2016 over their 2015 record. Will they show any improvement in 2017?
The Angels give starting duties to right handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco, who joined the Angels from the Twins in 2016, was 8-14 with a 4.42 last year. Kendall Gravemann takes the mound for the As. He was 10-11 in 2016 with a 4.08 ERA.
