The San Diego Padres start the 2017 season against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.

It’s Opening Day for Major League Baseball and it’s time to kick off the 2017 season with the San Diego Padres visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In a repeat matchup of Opening Day 2016, the San Diego Padres are once again facing the Los Angeles Dodgers, but hopefully with a better result in 2017 than they had in 2016, when the Dodgers shut out the Padres in all three games with a total of 25 points scored. The Padres’ season reflected that rough start as they found themselves in the basement of the National League West while the Dodgers finished in first place and went to the postseason.

The Dodgers finished the 2016 with a loss to the Washington Nationals in the NLDS. Los Angeles has been in heavy competition with the San Francisco Giants in the NL West, and they’re hoping to retain their spot at the top of the division in 2017. Injuries plagued the team in Spring Training, where they finished 18-17. Ace Clayton Kershaw (12-4, 1.69 ERA) will be on the mound to kick off the 2017 season.

It’s no secret that the San Diego Padres have been rebuilding, and they’re still in the middle of that plan despite signing key veterans Wil Myers and Yangervis Solarte to multi-year contracts. This will be the first year the team sees minor league stars Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe in the starting lineup, which could make things a lot of fun to watch despite the rebuild. The Padres finished 2016 with a 68-94 record, and they were 11-21 in Spring Training. The Padres will have Atlanta Braves acquisition Jhoulys Chacin (6-8, 4.81 ERA) starting things off.
