NFL Draft 2017: Chad Kelly injured at Ole Miss pro day
By Bryan Holmes
Former Ole Miss Quarterback Chad Kelly was injured during his Pro Day workout. Will his off-field issues cost him a NFL roster spot?
Chad “Swag” Kelly had his pro day cut short when he injured his wrist that had been previously banged up before the start of the day, according to NFL insider Ian Rappaport. Kelly was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine because of a conduct policy issue. Now, he is not likely to get another chance to showcase his arm to NFL scouts before the draft.
Kelly was never considered a top prospect among NFL scouts but he was considered to be at least “draftable.” In reality this injury may not even hurt him all that much. Not throwing at a pro day could actually be the best move for some quarterbacks (see Teddy Bridgewater).
Kelly was not expected to throw that much during the day anyways, as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL sustained last fall. NFL teams have seen that Kelly has the ability to play football at a high level and that he has a big arm. What they are most concerned about is his off-field conduct.

Among other things that Kelly has done to prove that he may not be the safest bet as a draft pick, he has been kicked off of Clemson’s football team for “detrimental conduct to the team,” been arrested and accused of making threats to open gunfire in a bar, and getting into a scuffle with the police upon arrest.
