After a fierce second half battle that saw the lead exchange hands multiple times, North Carolina came away with a big 71-65 win over Gonzaga in the 2017 National Championship game.
Nothing says championship like rolling out the custom hats and t-shirts for the winning team the moment the buzzer sounds and the confetti starts falling from the rafters. (We can only hope there isn’t a repeat of the Oscars when the wrong box of gear is handed to the winning team…)

North Carolina came out strong at the beginning of the game, but Gonzaga went on a run to create a buffer between the two teams. The Tar Heels came back to within a few points leading up to the half, but that was the story of the entire second half as the Bulldogs and the Tar Heels remained within two points of each other, exchanging control of the lead back and forth into the final moments. While there weren’t a lot of standout moments, it was a fun game to watch.
The road to the National Championship game was a thrilling one, with top seeds like the 2016 National Champion Villanova falling early on in the tournament. This was a historic tournament for the Gonzaga Bulldogs who never made it past the Elite 8. North Carolina has been to the championship game several times before, including in the loss to Villanova in the 2016 championship game, and they looked every bit like the veterans but Gonzaga was ready for the challenge.
