The Philadelphia Eagles have traded a third round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for Timmy Jernigan.
After losing Bennie Logan to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to address their defensive line. The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, were looking to find a home for disgruntled defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan. Naturally, the two sides are a perfect match, as the Eagles will send the Ravens their third round pick in exchange for Jernigan and a third round pick. It’s in effect a swap of third round picks.

Baltimore gets something for a player they no longer wanted. While he put up strong numbers in the first nine games, Jernigan finished the year very weak. He put up five sacks in his first nine games, including sacks in his first three games.
However, Jernigan fell out of favor thanks to his inconsistent production and his penalties. He got called for several unsportsmanlike conduct penalties down the stretch. Jernigan has one year left on his deal before he is eligible for free agency and has a cap hit of just over $1.3 million in 2017.
Philadelphia get a talented defensive tackle, albeit one who has been a bit frustrating. With the loss of Logan, Jernigan should help fill the void up the middle. However, he must stay on the field and he must remain disciplined. With the re-signing of Brandon Williams and several young linemen itching for playing time, Jernigan wore out his welcome in Baltimore.

The Ravens drafted him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Jernigan has 14 sacks and 93 combined tackles in his three seasons. With the Eagles, he should get much more playing time. Hopefully for the Ravens, they’ll be able to replace his depth. Jernigan didn’t get much interest from other teams, but he might be a diamond in the rough for Philly.
