Buster Posey thinks Giants have the talent to win it again
By Mark Carman
San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey called into On The Mark in Episode 6, on behalf of his Esurance ad campaign. Posey was taking time during the off day after the Giants opener for the 2017 season.
Posey weighed in on the speed of the game and the pressure for pitchers to pick up the pace. Posey does not think pitchers should have a pitch clock on them,
"“I don’t really have any good reason, other than a gut reason, for saying no.”"
Posey is open to limiting the amount of times a catcher can go out to the mound, but thinks putting something like that in the game is very tricky,
"“There are certain points in the games where it is very crucial to go out there. Maybe you need to change the signs if there is a runner on second. So its not black and white, but maybe sometimes its not as important.”"
Posey also looks back at the Giants run in the postseason last year. San Francisco lost 3-1 in the divisional round to the eventual World Series champion Chicago Cubs. He believes that if the Giants had been able to force a game five they could have advanced, but gave credit to the Cubs.
As for the Giants potential in 2017, Posey is confident and looking forward to the season as you would expect.
"“We have the pieces to do it. It is on the players to make it happen. Time will tell if we can put it all together.”"
Posey also shares a story about how he landed at the catcher position and found a spot he loves.
Posey is featured in Esurance’s new national commercial airing in April, as well as a series of social videos throughout the season showcasing Buster giving pep talks to people as they struggle through everyday situations.
