Liverpool sit comfortably in the top four of the Premier Leauge. A win in a midweek game against Bournemouth would push Jurgen Klopp’s team closer to Champions League qualification for next season. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side sit right in the middle of the table. The Cherries are too far back in the race for Europe but should be safe from any relegation battle, barring a collapse.
Liverpool faced Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday. Klopp’s side opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Sadio Mane beat his defender and finished into the bottom right corner. Everton would tie the game on a corner 20 minutes later. Matthew Pennington put away a loose ball to level the score. Philippe Coutinho scored just three minutes later. The Brazilian made a beautiful run and finished into the top right corner. Divock Origi sealed the win for Liverpool in the second half. Three minutes after coming as a substitute, the Belgian striker scored from just outside the box.
Bournemouth drew with Southampton over the weekend. Both teams had their chances to score, but neither team was able to finish. The Cherries should have taken all three points when they were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute. However, Harry Arter blasted the ball way over the bar.
