MLB DFS Value Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel April 5th

I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious MLB DFS values on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.

Tonight’s main slate features 12 games, with Arizona (4.8), San Francisco (4.8), Washington (4.8), Boston (4.7), and Colorado (4.7), holding the best projected team totals. Identifying value should allow us to access some of the top end arms tonight. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

DraftKings Value:

April 3, 2017; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (66) celebrates with right fielder Franklin Gutierrez (28) and right fielder Andrew Toles (60) the 14-3 victory against the San Diego Padres following the opening day game at Dodger Stadium. Andrew Toles – LAD (OF) – $3000

Andrew Toles was able to reach value on opening day, by recording two hits. At this discounted price tag, it wont take much for Toles to reach his expected value. The Dodgers have another favorable match-up against the Padres and have a projected team total of 4.4 runs. If Toles continues to lead off for LA, he should be considered.

Chris Owings – ARI (OF/SS) – $3500

Arizona has one of the best projected team totals on the slate, of 4.8 runs. We’ve already seen line movement favoring Arizona, as they opened at +114 and are now a -104 favorite. Chris Owings will be on the good side of a righty vs. lefty split. Owings has had more success against lefties, with a .349 wOBA split and a .181 ISO split.

Denard Span – SF (OF) – $3900, Gorkys Hernandez – SF (OF) – $2800

Denard Span was held out of last night’s game due to hip soreness, but it sounds as if he should be ready for tonight. If not, Gorkys Hernandez, who filled in last night, also offers tremendous value at this price. Both players are under-priced, and given that either one will be batting first, on a team with a team total of 4.8 runs, they make for justifiable value plays.

FanDuel Value:

Joey Rickard – BAL (OF) – $2000

Joey Rickard is projected to lead off for the Orioles tonight. Rickard will face the lefty, J.A. Happ. Rickard has been significantly better against lefties, with a .373 wOBA split, a full .111 difference than when facing a righty.

Devon Travis – TOR (2B) – $2400

While Toronto doesn’t have the best possible matchup, Travis will offer value via his splits, his position in the order (1st), and his mispricing on FanDuel. On FanDuel Travis is only $2400, whereas on DraftKings he’s priced up to $4500.

Note: Andrew Toles, Denard Span, and Gorkys Hernandez are also values on FD
