10. Kentucky blocks Wichita State twice

A Second Round matchup between Kentucky and Wichita State had the feel of an Elite Eight game, including one of the most exciting finishes of the opening weekend.

The underseeded Shockers went toe-to-toe with Kentucky for the duration of the game, as neither team ever enjoyed more than a seven-point advantage. While both defenses were effective in a sluggish first half, things would open up down the stretch.

Kentucky built its biggest lead at 58-51 at the 4:09 mark before Landry Shamet reeled off five straight points. Malik Monk hit a three on Kentucky’s next possession, but Zach Brown and Shamet responded with back-to-back perimeter shots to cut the deficit to one with 56 seconds left.

Markis McDuffie’s potential go-ahead shot was blocked by Monk, who hit a pair of free throws on the other end. Shamet had one more chance to tie the game as time expired, only to be blocked again on a team effort from Monk and Bam Adebayo.

Kentucky would advance all the way to the Elite Eight to play another thriller against North Carolina, while the Shockers are looking to move to the AAC to improve their future seeding situation.
