What will the prize money be for The Masters in 2017?
The Masters event is the biggest one on the PGA Tour. It brings out the best golfers, competing at Augusta National for the illustrious green jacket. So fans will have their attention turned to this four-day competition to see who becomes the next champion.
Along with The Masters being prestigious, it’s also the highest-paying golf tournament of the year. The winner has received over $1 million for most of this millennium, including the 2016 winner, Danny Willett. He’ll be looking to become the fourth player to win two consecutive green jackets.
With that in mind, how much will the players be targeting in prize money from Thursday to Sunday? For the 2017 Masters event, the winner will receive $1.6 million, according to the Evening Stanard.
One of the favorites to win will be Jordan Spieth. He won the 2015 Masters and placed second in 2014 and 2016, with the latter featuring a memorable collapse of him losing a five-shot lead. This allowed Willet to climb up the leaderboard and claim the green jacket.
Another top-rated player for The Masters is Dustin Johnson. He’s the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, so he’s going to be seen as a contender to win — that’s if he plays. Johnson injured his back in a fall down the steps, putting his status in doubt just a short time before the big event. So even if he’s able to compete, he may be limited.
Other former champions will be in action, too. This includes Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson, all of whom have won in this decade. Most notably, Mickelson won with a -16 in the 2010 Masters.
