NFL draft rumors: John Ross to visit Titans
By Kyle Wigmore
Washington wide receiver John Ross is set to visit with the Tennessee Titans.
John Ross, the record-breaking wide receiver out of Washington University is being brought in for a pre-draft visit with the Tennessee Titans brass.
The 5’11” speedster recently set the world on fire after posting a record 4.22 40-yard dash time in the recent combine. Now, he is reportedly in Nashville to make his case for being the 5th or 18th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
In recent mock drafts, Ross has been a popular choice for the Titans’ 18th overall pick. The Titans desperately need speed on the outside and Ross fits the bill.
It seems as though the interest is mutual. Ross recently made a few statements about playing with franchise quarterback Marcus Mariota.
"“He’s one of my favorite quarterbacks ever. When (Washington) played Oregon, he was doing things I’d never seen before in person. I would love to catch balls from Marcus,” Ross said. “We’re both young, we’d be able to grow together.”"
The connection between the two dates back to when Ross to an official visit to Oregon and his host was the Heisman winning quarterback Mariota.
"“That was the only time I’ve ever talked to him, but I got a great first impression from him,” Ross said. “He was a really good dude. He was humble and quiet, so he reminded me of myself. It would be great to talk to him again.”"
Ross’ infatuation with playing with the Titans’ franchise quarterback doesn’t stop there. According to Ross’ Snapchat, it looks as though Ross is ready to catch passes from “MariGOATa” ASAP.
The Titans desperately need to find a go-to receiver for Mariota and should have a couple of options available throughout the draft.
Whether it is pick No. 5 or pick No. 18, look for general manager Jon Robinson to find a solution for the Titans’ lack of playmaking ability on the outside.
Ross could make a smooth transition into the Titans offense and will add a much-needed dimension to the passing game. With the ability to take the top off of the defense and keep safeties in check, Ross will only help further the progress of head coach Mike Mularkey’s “exotic smash mouth” offense by keeping the backend of opposing defenses honest.
