Seattle Seahawks demanding a lot for Richard Sherman in potential trade
The Seahawks are reportedly asking for a first-round pick plus a “very good” player in return for Richard Sherman.
The cost is steep for cornerback Richard Sherman. According to an NFL source, the Seattle Seahawks are asking for “a very good player plus a high draft pick” for Sherman. Is Sherman worth a first-rounder and a high draft pick? Absolutely. The Jets traded Darrelle Revis to the Bucs for a first and fourth round draft pick in the 2013 draft.
It sounds like the Seahawks have decided to officially put Sherman on the block with this move. That the Seahawks have named a price for Sherman indicates that they are serious about trading him. They are weighing his value either through receiving calls are making calls to other teams. The Patriots reportedly had interest in trading for Sherman, but that may no longer be true.
Sherman is only 28, and he is still one of the elite cornerbacks in football. He has 30 interceptions already in his short career. Sherman has made four consecutive Pro Bowls, three All-Pro teams, and has played in two Super Bowls. He is on a four-year, $56M deal that runs through 2018. He is making a reasonable $11.4M in 2017 and a more reasonable $11M in 2018.

Reportedly, a lot of teams have interest in cornerbacks through the draft or a trade. It is likely that the market for Sherman will heat up around the draft. The Saints, Eagles, and Cowboys are specifically interested in trading for cornerbacks, as the Saints have reportedly toyed around with making an offer to the Patriots’ Malcolm Butler. Sherman and Butler could end up playing musical chairs with one going to the Saints and the other to the Patriots. Knowing Sherman’s personality, it would be a surprise if he stays with the Seahawks after all of these rumors.
