What can he not do? He won the Heisman Trophy, national championships in college football, led the Denver Broncos to an overtime playoff win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Tim Tebow hits home runs.

All over America, people are traveling to parks to watch MLB hopefuls prove their worth as minor league baseball gets going. Of course, of all the prospects out there, no one will get more attention than Tim Tebow.

Maybe there is good reason for that. He is charming and charismatic, and he hosts prom events for people with special needs across the country. As an analyst for football on the SEC Network, he communicates well and provides solid insight.

But now, he can add another trait to his likability factor. Tim Tebow just hit an opposite field home run.

The Columbia Fireflies opened the season tonight versus the Augusta GreenJackets and the starting left fielder for the Fireflies was Tim Tebow. On the fourth pitch of his first at-bat, Tebow launched an opposite field home run.

Is there anything he cannot do? Not even the great Michael Jordan could hit a ball when he left basketball to pursue baseball. Now, this doesn’t mean that he is going to rake all season long. Maybe he moves up to Double-A baseball before June, but evidence is in hand that he is capable of hitting.

Okay, maybe it is a bit early for Tebow-Mania to start again, though. He followed up his homer with a groundout to short. That said, in two at-bats Tebow went the opposite direction. Maybe it is a slow bat, or a late swing. Or maybe — just maybe — Tim Tebow knows how to play baseball.
