Derek Barnett

Edge, Tennessee

The Cincinnati Bengals head into the 2017 season with plenty of eyes on head coach Marvin Lewis, who has to be on the hot seat at this point. The coach has not won a playoff game during his time with the team, despite having some incredible talent throughout his tenure. The Bengals should be right in the mix next season in the AFC North, and adding a solid pass rusher on defense would be a smart pick at No. 9.

Derek Barnett, aside from Myles Garrett, is the best pass rusher in this draft class. While he is a notch below Garrett, he should have an incredible impact at the next level, and his explosiveness on the edge puts him on another level. He broke Hall of Famer Reggie White’s career sack record at Tennessee, and he should have no problem getting after the quarterback at the NFL.

The Bengals have a lot of nice players on their roster, and are not far off from being a playoff-caliber team. Andy Dalton is a solid quarterback in this league, and they should get a healthy A.J. Green back for next season. The team did release linebacker Rey Maualuga this offseason, so adding a playmaker on that side of the ball has to be a priority as they head towards draft day.
