David Johnson is going to be the Arizona Cardinals workhorse back in 2017.

David Johnson is one of the most exciting players to watch in the NFL, with both his rushing and receiving skills out of the backfield. Johnson averaged 23.3 touches per game in 2016, and that could only be the beginning.

Last week, head coach Bruce Arians said the Cardinals anticipated using him 30 times per game this season whether it be in the running or passing game. Johnson responded to those statements, via Kyle Odegard of the team’s official website.

"“I’m still young,” Johnson said via the team’s official website. “I’m still on my first contract. So I feel I can definitely handle 30 touches. I did it last year, basically, with running the ball and catching it out of the backfield. I never really got fatigued. Those tough defense games against Seattle and the Rams, those games might feel a little sore, but that’s not until the adrenaline comes down. I never really feel too bad.”"

Johnson, 25, touched the ball 373 times last season. Those efforts resulted in 1,239 yards on the ground and 879 yards through the air. The youngster found the end zone 20 times. The declaration to give Johnson even more touches this season should make him one of the most coveted players in fantasy football.

As of now, the Cardinals do not have a viable backup at running back. Former tailback Andre Ellington is moving to receiver for this season. Johnson is also currently a free agent who Arizona could conceivably sign back. The Cardinals could fill the backup role to Johnson in the 2017 NFL Draft.
