Turns out we’ll have to wait a week longer than Kendrick made us think.
Kendrick Lamar sent the music world into a tizzy when he sent out an Instagram post a few weeks ago teasing a new single, which we subsequently got. At the end of “The Hart Part 4,” Kendrick made it clear that everyone had until April 7 to get their, um, crap together.
Naturally, that sounded like he was talking about a release date for his fourth album, the title of which is still a mystery. Yet here we are on April 7, and no album.
Alas, the wait isn’t that much longer. As reported by Pitchfork, the work known currently as simply ALBUM is slated to release next Friday, April 14. It will be Lamar’s fourth full-length studio album and first since To Pimp a Butterfly two years ago.
An interesting list of collaborators includes U2, Alchemist and 9th Wonder. So far the full track list is also a mystery.
Though Chance the Rapper has arguably taken over his spot as the most buzzworthy MC with both mainstream and urban appeal, Lamar remains one of the top talents in hip-hop today, and any new project of his is almost guaranteed to rocket up the charts. It will be interesting to see if critical acclaim follows suit, as reviewers have enjoyed almost everything Kendrick has released to date, as have the Grammys — he’s already won seven of them.
While you wait for ALBUM or whatever it ends up being called, you can always avail yourself of “The Heart Part 4,” which is available on iTunes and pretty much anywhere you get your music.
