Tottenham enter the weekend in second place behind Chelsea atop the table. Watford sit in the middle of the table following a 2-0 win over West Brom on Tuesday.
Tottenham were lucky to pick up all three points on Wednesday against Swansea. Former Tottenham player Wayne Routledge put Swansea up 1-0 in the 11th minute. For most of the game, Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski was able to come up with the big saves when the Swans needed it. However, in the 88th minute, Spurs were finally able to find the back of the net. Dele Alli tapped in the first of three Tottenham goals coming in a seven-minute stretch. Heung-min Son put Tottenham ahead in injury time before Christian Eriksen sealed the deal with a goal three minutes later.
Mbaye Niang opened the scoring for the Hornets on Tuesday. Niang cut in and curled the ball into the West Brom net. West Brom were unlucky not to tie the game when Nacer Chadli’s free-kick smacked off the post. Just minutes into the start of the second half, Watford captain Troy Deeney got a lucky goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
At this point in the season, Tottenham have more to play for than Watford. The Hornets will stay up next season. While Spurs are fighting to maintain a Champions League spot and could work their way into the title picture if Chelsea drop points again.
