13. The Undertaker vs. Kane ā WrestleMania XIV
The build to this match was fantastic. Kane debuted at In Your House: Badd Blood during the first-ever Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels and cost his ābig brotherā the bout. āThatās gotta be Kane!ā Thanks for ruining that for all of us, Vince. A match was imminent but The Undertaker refused to fight his brother so Kane took matters into his own hands by locking āTaker into a casket at the Royal Rumble and setting it on fire. Just over a month later on an episode ofĀ RAW, The Deadman returned and said that he would go back on his vow and the match for WrestleMania XIV was set.
Kane won the power battle early on, which led the announce team into their usual ānobody beats down The Undertaker like thisā lines that seemingly come far too often but this looked pretty good. Kane used the outside steps a couple of times as Paul Bearer distracted the referee. He continued the onslaught for a bit until āTaker fought back with a clothesline but Kane went right back on the offensive with a chokeslam. He went for the cover but actually pulled āTaker up after two to put on a chinlock. Sure. But āTaker powered out and hit a suplex that knocked Kane to the apron and then finished him off with a big boot that knocked him all the way to the floor. āTaker then went for his dive over the top rope but Kane moved and sent āTaker crashing into the announce table in a very cool spot.
Back on the inside, Kane hit his clothesline from the top rope before āTaker turned the tide and got him up for a Tombstone attempt, which Kane reversed into one of his own for a two count. Very well done there. The Undertaker fought back with a clothesline and a leg drop, then finally hit his Tombstone but Kane kicked out at two and then did so again just a short time later. The Phenom went to the top and hit a nice clothesline before finally putting his brother away with a third Tombstone. Pretty solid match. 7-0.
