Bubba Watson rips the media after missing cut
By Bryan Holmes
Bubba Watson lashed out against the media after a rough week at the Masters saying “Golf is tough” and “… writing articles is easy.”
For the first time in Bubba Watson’s career he missed the cut at the Masters. Understandably frustrated with his golf game Watson had to field questions from the media following his second round. Gene Sapakoff of the Charleston Port and Courier asked Watson about why he thought he didn’t play so well this weekend, and Watson responded, “Golf is tough. I don’t know if you’ve ever played it. But writing articles is easy.”
Soon after Watson’s comments the wave of sports journalists on Twitter jumped all over Watson leading to Watson releasing a statement (a tweet) on the matter. Watson said, “I was joking but it was obviously a bad joke … Didn’t mean to offend anyone. I apologize.” Watson then released a video, which you can watch below, on the matter in which he better explains himself.
Watson has a history of ruffling feathers on the PGA tour with both the media and the players. In a 2015 ESPN survey, 23 percent of the pros polled said they would not help Bubba Watson in a fight in a parking lot if he was by himself. Further it is not rare to see Watson ripping his caddie, Ted Scott, even to the point where #PrayforTedScott has previously been trending on twitter.

For what it is worth, Watson does deserve some credit for immediately coming out and addressing the issue in the media following the comments. Sometimes quotes don’t come across as you mean them. This is probably just a case of an unfortunate misunderstanding on both sides.
