Jason Witten says goodbye to long-time teammate and good friend Tony Romo.

As the Dallas Cowboys say their goodbyes to ex-franchise quarterback Tony Romo, one of his closest teammates finally spoke out about Romo’s retirement and paid tribute to his success.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten took to Twitter, posting his goodbyes to his former quarterback in a very touching sentiment about the two’s relationship since entering the league.

The two started their NFL career together in 2003. Witten was the Cowboys’ third-round pick that year, while Romo was signed as a rookie free agent.

Witten reflected on the journey the two started and their friendship that came to be.

Witten started off the sentimental tribute with how his NFL journey began.

“Nearly 14 years ago to the day, I arrived in Dallas,” Witten said. “I was a new member of the Dallas Football Cowboys via the 69th pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. I was as green as any 20-year old Tennesse boy could be, carrying the excitement of a little kid on Christmas day. I anxiously awaited the unique privilege given to me by Mr. Jerry Jones to participate in my first NFL mini-camp. This was an exciting time – for I had dreamed about it my entire life.”

Later Witten described that he wouldn’t want to experience this journey of entering the league with anyone else, but Romo.

“The days following that now famous shuttle ride were not easy…mostly spent being on the receiving end of colorful language from legendary coach Bill P. Truth be told, there was many days over the next 168 months of the relationship that were faced with extreme challenges from people inside and outside our league,” explained Witten. “However, knowing what I know now, I must say that there is no one – and I mean no one – I would rather have next to me on this journey other than Tony Romo.”

Witten then offers his goodbyes later and wishes him good luck in his new career to the Cowboys franchise leader in passing touchdowns.

“Nine (Romo’s number), I am forever grateful to have had you as my quarterback. Your God-given talent and ability has positively impacted not just my life, but my entire family. I am proud to call you my dear friend and brother for life,” Witten said. “Thank you for always believing in me, and I wish you all the best in the next chapter – cheers!!”

It’s safe to say, Witten will miss Romo as many other Cowboys’ players, coaches, front office members and fans will as well.
