Jordan Spieth continues to get better with each round at the 2017 Masters Tournament. Where does he stack up with the leaderboard heading into Round 4?
After a trying Round 1 at Augusta National, American phenom Jordan Spieth was able to put together two excellent rounds to enter Sunday within striking distance of his second Green Jacket. Spieth won the 2015 Masters Tournament and finished runner-up last year.
He enters Round 4 in a three-way tie for fourth place with Ryan Moore and Charley Hoffman. Spieth enters Round 3 at even par. His Round 1 was undermined by a terrible quadruple bogey on Firethorn at 15. Spieth’s Round 2 was an impressive 69 that had him in position to make a run today.
Well, Spieth most certainly did that, as he shot a strong -4 to be only two strokes back of the lead. Justin Rose shot -5 on Saturday, while Sergio Garcia continues to play well all tournament long. Spieth is figuring out Augusta National heading into the final round.
He shot five birdies (6, 8, 9, 13, 15) to only one bogey on 16 to finish with a 68 on the day. Keep in mind that Spieth had a massive lead before his back-nine collapse in Round 4 last year. Perhaps he got that out of the way with his terrible day on 15 back on Thursday?
Here is how Spieth stacks up with the best on the leaderboard through Round 3.
T1. Justin Rose -6
T1. Sergio Garcia -6
3. Rickie Fowler -5
*T4. Jordan Spieth -4
T4. Ryan Moore -4
T4. Charley Hoffman -4
7. Adam Scott -3
8. Charl Schwartzel -2
T9. Lee Westwood -1
T9. Thomas Pieters -1

For Spieth to win his second Green Jacket, he will need to shot at least a 68 (-4) or a 69 (-3) and see either Rose or Garcia collapse. He cannot afford to see Fowler, who is one stroke ahead of him at -5, get hot either. Either way, Sunday in Augusta should be a ton of fun.
