Burnley sit 12 points ahead of Middlesbrough in the Premier League table. After losing to Hull on Wednesday, Middlesbrough seem destined to be relegated at the end of the season.
Burnley hosted Stoke at Turf Moor on Tuesday. Despite being outshot by the Potters, Burnley were able to score the game’s only goal. In the 58th minute, George Boyd was able to finish on a ball played into the middle of the box. The win moved Burnley to 35 points, usually enough to ensure Premier League survival. The Clarets sit seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Middlesbrough faced Hull in a battle of two teams in the relegation zone on Tuesday. Surprisingly, the game produced six goals. Boro got out to a fast start when Alvaro Negredo scored in the fifth minute. Hull tied the game when Lazar Markovic scored after the Boro defense failed to clear the ball. Six minutes later, Abel Hernandez increased Hull’s led. At the end of the first half, Marten de Roon scored despite being offside by a few yards. Hull sealed the game in the 70th minute when Harry Maguire headed home a goal off of a beautiful set piece.
