Vegas will take bets on the NFL Draft for the first time ever
For the first time ever, Vegas will take bets on the NFL Draft.
Sports betting has been around forever. You can put money on football, baseball, basketball, soccer, horse racing, dog racing, anything. This year, Vegas will now take bets placed on the NFL Draft.
I wasn’t shocked Vegas was doing this when I heard it; I was shocked it wasn’t already happening. With the amount of ridiculous prop bets that happen during the Super Bowl, it was only a matter of time until Vegas got into some draft day action. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the Nevada Gaming Control Board finally approved casinos to offer prop bets on the draft.
The way it works is a little different, though; there’s no betting on who the No.1 overall pick will be. It will be something along the lines of what is the over/under of a position that was drafted in the first round.
Vegas wanted to avoid allowing betting on where a certain player might get drafted or what player will go to which team. With the amount of mock drafts floating around the Internet, it could be too easy to figure that out. I’m sure the money line for Myles Garret going No.1 overall would be ridiculous.
Although betting on the draft is new in Vegas casinos, online sports books have been doing prop bets for the first round for some time now. For example, you can place a bet on which quarterback will go first, or you can bet on the first overall pick selection and whether it will be offense or defense.

Vegas had to get in on the action after having yet, another big night during Super Bowl 51. Sports books won $10.93 million off of $138.48 million wagered. I’m sure that over the next few years the rules will change and there will be more prop bets added in along the way. So now not only do you get to enjoy seeing a young mans dream come true, you can make some money in the process of it happening.
